Working with a travel agency is a great way to plan exciting trips for family vacations, singles getaways or business travel. In order to make the process as simple and efficient as possible, it helps if you make a few preparations before sitting down with an agent and making the final plans. Here are some tips about what you can do to work with an agent and have your travel itinerary locked in and ready to go in very little time.

One of the most important aspects of working effectively with your travel agent is to have some idea of where you want to go. In some instances, such as a business trip, this is a simple task that involves identifying the destination you must reach in order to conduct your business. When planning a vacation, this factor may be a little broader. Still, it is helpful if your agent knows in advance that you want to spend two weeks by the ocean or would like to spend your vacation at a mountain resort. Supplying the agent with details of this type makes it possible to begin assembling information on destinations, travel arrangements, and accommodations for you to consider.

Along with having some idea of where you want to go on your vacation, it is also helpful in many cases to determine how much you can reasonably afford to spend on the travel. Even when traveling for business, many companies have limits on costs associated with airfares, hotel rooms, and other aspects of the trip. Providing your agent with a maximum amount you can spend will help to narrow the field of options in terms of travel, accommodations, and amenities that he or she can secure on your behalf.

With the general destination and the total cost allowance in place, the agent can then address any special needs you may have. For example, a business traveler may need to book a conference room at the hotel, using the space to meet with clients. Vacationers may need to consider special needs for young children such as daycare or other on-site services at the hotel. Even something as simple as allergies may come into play, since the agent will want to verify the hotel can substitute their traditional goose feather pillows for something that will not make you sneeze all night long.

Do not forget to mention any activities or sights you would like to enjoy while on the trip. In many instances, the agent can make arrangements in advance for day passes to amusement parks, as well as obtain tickets for plays and other live entertainment. In some cases, the agent can arrange all or part of the cost for these extras to be bundled into the total cost of the travel package, which means you will not have to pay extra to enjoy these types of amusements.

Keep in mind that the travel agent will take into consideration every piece of information you supply. A competent travel agent will also ask you some additional questions. Some of these may seem irrelevant, but that is rarely the case. The reason behind the seemingly unrelated questions may provide clues about the type of room you would be most comfortable in, or little things you like or dislike that may influence which hotels the agent suggests for your stay. Since the idea is to provide you with the best possible travel arrangements within the perimeters you provide, the agent will seek to learn as much as possible to help meet that goal.

As the plans begin to take shape, you will notice that the travel agency will also begin to supply you with information that will help make the trip more pleasant for you. This will include providing you with many of the little things you will need to know in order to enjoy your hotel or the general area. This will include informing you of sights, restaurants, or entertainment venues that are within walking distance of the hotel, the nature of any public transportation available at your destination, and any cultural nuances that would help you communicate effectively with the local citizenry. These little extras can make a big difference, especially if you will be vacationing in a location where the language and culture are different from your own.

Just before your agent actually books any of your arrangements, he or she is likely to go over each aspect of the trip with you one more time. This is for two reasons. First, it helps to ensure you are happy with the overall plan the agent has created for you. Second, it serves as one last check to make sure neither of you can think of any other factor that must be addressed. Once you are both satisfied the travel plans
are complete, the booking begins and the agent supplies you with a packet detailing all the arrangements that have been put in place.

It is important to remember that even the best agent cannot arrange a satisfactory trip if you do not supply information about what you want and need for the trip. Provide as much detail as you can, and be sure to ask questions as you go through the planning process. Also be prepared to answer any questions put to you by the agent. Working together, the two of you will create travel plans that will ensure the success of your trip.

If you decide to work with a travel agent in planning your next vacation, you can generally expect to enjoy your trip more because of the great perks and knowledgeable service experienced agents can give you, you may even be able to save some money as well.

A travel agent who is experienced and knowledgeable about the industry in which they work knows how to get the best out of your destination. Whether it’s by finding cheap flights, comfortable but inexpensive otels, or locating those hard-to-find tickets for exclusive events, your travel agent will work for you.

So if you do decide to work with an agent, it definitely pays to find the best. But how can you spot a good agent? Here are some tips and things to look for that will help you identify a good travel agent.

Ask family and friends for recommendations

This should always be your first step when choosing a travel agent. Ask people you can trust for their opinions, they’re more reliable than reviews and testimonials you might read on the internet. You don’t have to base your results on their opinion, but asking for recommendations might give you a head start in locating an agent.

Check out the agency before talking to an agent

A good agent might very well be working at an inferior agency, so look around when you visit each one. Look for an agency that is a member of the American Society of Travel Agents (which means it has been operating for three or more years under its current ownership) and is accredited to several airlines.

Look for an agent with experience in the industry

There’s nothing wrong with choosing a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, young agent who is relatively new to the industry, but if you really want the very best travel agent choose someone who has been at their job for at least a few years.

Time in the industry isn’t the only important factor. You may also consider the number of clients the agent has worked with and their general volume of work. Some agents might have spent twenty years in the industry, but have a relatively low volume of work. Others might book dozens of trips every year, and may have much more extensive industry knowledge.

When you’re checking out your prospective travel agent’s experience, look at the number of trips they’ve booked as well as the number of years they’ve been working in the industry.

Find an agent with experience in booking trips to your destination

If you’re planning on a trip to an exotic or obscure location, finding a travel agent with experience in booking trips to that specific area can be particularly important. Any travel agent can book you a trip to pretty much anywhere, but what do they know about the destination itself? If you’re planning a trip to go rock-climbing in the Swiss Alps, a travel agent who has only booked trips in the United States won’t be able to help you plan your trip as well as someone who has experience with European destinations.

Test your agent’s knowledge by asking the right questions

You don’t have to book your trip with the first travel agent you find, so don’t fall into the trap of visiting an agent for information and leaving with your trip booked. It’s your money that’s paying for the trip, so you have every right to keep searching until you find the right agent for you, the agent that makes you feel comfortable.

Take the opportunity to find out more about the agent as well as your destination. For example, you can ask them about their industry experience, commission rate, what they know about your destination, and whether they have traveled to your destination.

Possible questions to ask include:

* What’s the best time to travel to your destination? When are the peak and off-peak seasons?
* What travel documents will you need when traveling to your destination? Is there anything else you need to travel, such as vaccinations?
* Does the agent offer travel insurance with the trips they book? Will you get a refund if your trip is cancelled?
* Can they suggest some ways in which you can reduce the costs associated with your trip?
* What activities can they recommend at your destination?

If you really want to work with a good travel agent, it’s important to find someone who knows about the location in which you are traveling, someone who has actually been there. Asking questions like these will help you determine whether your agent has specific knowledge about your destination.

Don’t expect your agent to know the answers to everything you ask, but at the very least they should be willing to find out the answer to any question you may ask.

Take note of the questions that the agent asks you. They should be asking questions that show they’re interested in what your needs and desires are for the trip, rather than seeming more interested in simply selling you a package deal that might not be right for you.

If you are traveling to London, you have may see the usual sites - Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Madame Tussaud’s. London, like many of Europe’s cities, can offer the curious traveler more than old buildings and museum tours. The history of the city contains many eerie and macabre events and some London hotels sport their very own ghosts that the lucky, or unlucky, lodger might encounter.

London is the oldest city which is constantly maintaining its glorifying history. Approximately thousand years ago from the era of industrial revolution, London has been maintaining its identification as global trade centre which can be seen today in form of its diversified society.

London is among the few cities of the world that thrives with life round the clock. Yes that’s right, London keeps its every guest entertained with its glorious past and as one enters the heart of the city the mesmerizing beauty enthralls him and the vibrant nightlife will keep him awake and amused throughout the night.

London is the finest one example of cross culture and civilization. Every year thousands of people with different purposes come to London city. There are many must see sights in London like Buckingham palace, the houses of parliament, the tower of London, the millennium wheel, Greenwich observatory and Madame Tussaud’s wax museum.   Cheap Travel Plan

Recently, the Government of the Republic of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Social Welfare, issued a notification that the Health Surveillance Desks, which were abolished way back in the year 2001, will be reinstated in all entry points - border posts, ports and international airports. Tanzania happens to be among the countries that are at risk of being affected by the yellow fever. The health officials have therefore been instructed to deal with the control and prevention of yellow fever with regard to international travelers coming from yellow fever endemic areas. This directive is actually as a result of an advise from the World Health Organization on the same issue.

To all Tour Operators, Travel
Agents and the general public, the general message is that all visitors arriving from SOME infected countries will require proof of yellow fever vaccination before entering Tanzania.

Which areas are the Yellow Fever Endemic zones in Africa?

The areas considered as Yellow fever endemic zones in Africa include:-

Senegal, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Cote D’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria, Mali, Niger, Chad, Central African Republic, Togo, Benin, Sao Tome and Principe, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, United Republic of Tanzania, Angola, Zambia, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Somali, Sudan and Equatorial Guinea.

Which areas are the Yellow Fever Endemic Zones in America?

The areas considered as Yellow fever endemic zones in the Americas include:-

Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana and Bolivia.

Any exemptions to this requirements?

Yes! Some exemptions, here:

Visitors arriving from other areas, but transiting in yellow fever endemic countries by connecting flights to Tanzania within the arrival airport BUT WITHOUT checking out of that ‘transiting’ airport will NOT be required to produce a yellow fever vaccination certificate when they get to Tanzania.

Any yellow fever issues with Travelers from Europe and North America?

Not really, but for personal health protection, it would be wise to heed this advise. “All clients including those arriving directly into Tanzania from non-yellow fever areas, for example Europe or the USA, may need to vaccinate against yellow fever, although it is not mandatory”

What does this mean to Tour Operators specifically?

From the Tour Operators’ and Travel Agents’ point of view, the directive raised a number of concerns. Some of the issues raised by Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) upon getting this notification were:

1. Positioning of separate health desks are not necessary as these will contribute to unnecessary delays at the entry points.

2. Adequate preparation time and proper logistics was required.

3. Sufficient publicity is required regarding the reintroduction of Yellow Fever requirement and position (status) of travelers who have transited yellow fever- endemic zones.

Subsequently, TATO has engaged the relevant government departments on the matter. According to a circular sent from the TATO Secretariat to all TATO members, the discussion held between TATO Executive Secretary and Tanzania’s senior medical personnel responsible for control of transmission of disease within population (epidemiologist)…….. they were informed that the Government is working on their concerns and will give a statement later.

However, in the interim some clarifications have been made:

Travelers to Tanzania who will NOT NEED proof of Yellow Fever vaccination:

For all travelers coming directly from Europe to Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam (Julius Nyerere International) Airports on direct flights, such that they did not cross or transit through an endemic country they will not need Yellow Fever Vaccination. You may however recommend yellow fever vaccination to your clients for self protection against the risk of exposure to the disease, although it is not mandatory – suggested by WHO.

Travelers to Tanzania who will NEED proof of Yellow Fever vaccination:

For all travelers coming from Europe via or transiting through an endemic country, for example. via Nairobi or Addis Ababa. They will need a Yellow Fever Vaccination card. This also applies to passengers in transit in airports where there is a risk of yellow fever transmission, for example, clients arriving on an international flight in Nairobi or Addis Ababa and connecting a regional flight within the airport to Kilimanjaro or Dar es Salaam.

YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION ON ARRIVAL AT KILIMANJARO AIRPORT AND DAR ES SALAAM AIRPORT

Yellow fever vaccination is provided at Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam airports at a cost of USD 50 per passenger. This service is for passengers who are required to hold a yellow fever vaccination certificate but have none on arrival in Tanzania.

ENTRY PROCEDURE

On arrival, international & regional passengers must first go to the health desk then to the Immigration desk; no passport will be accepted at immigration desk without a stamp from Health Desk.

Final word of caution: If you find yourself in a situation that does not fall under any of the ones described above, the most reliable source remains the Tanzania government through the high commission or embassy that you find closest to you. Or ask your travel consultant or destination specialist for Tanzania Safaris
to contact them for you.

Natural, untouched beauty! That’s what New Zealand’s South Island is all about. The South Island is home to the Southern Alps and some great skiing and snow boarding opportunities.

Christchurch is the busiest city in the South Island and also offers an international airport, with flights connecting directly to a lot of overseas destinations. The Sumner Beach, Gondola, Avon river and Cashmere hills are the main attractions in Chistchurch. The city centre is always busy with trams running frequently making it a great place to hang out!

Dunedin with it’s Cadbury’s factory and Queenstown with it’s adventure attractions are the other two cities that can’t be missed in the South Island. Queenstown also has bungee jumping opportunities, jet boats and ski dive opportunities. Milford sound tours also leave from Queenstown, and are highly recommended. Stewart island can also be visited by ferries leaving Invercargill.

Most cities in the South Island are well connected by Trans Rail and that’s perhaps the most convenient way to travel. Alternately, rental cars can also be booked and a drive along the West Coast is highly recommended. Getting to the South Island from the North Island is possible by either catching the Interislander ferry from Wellington or a Sounds Air flight from Wellington airport. Domestic flights run by Air New Zealand and other airlines also connect most other cities in the South Island to Wellington.
